My Text Check FAQ - What do I get?
VRM and VIN/Chassis No checks
Each car has a unique code on it known as the VIN or Chassis No. TextCarCheck.com will allow you to check the Vehicle Registration Mark and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to ensure they are consistent with the information held by the DVLA and DVLNI.
The reason for this is that some people may attempt to alter the appearance and registration number of a stolen car with the intention of selling it on. They may also try to change the VIN. However, with a text car check through us, you’ll be able to check if the VRM and VIN match.
Vehicle identity check
A quick text to TextCarCheck.com can provide with instant information on a car, such as make, model, colour (and any previous colours), size of the engine, type of transmission, year of manufacture, how many owners it has had and who the current registered owner is.
The system we use is approved by the DVLA and DVLNI, meaning the data you receive is accurate and reliable. You can then use this information to make sure the car you have your eye on matches the seller’s description.
Security watch car text check
If a car is on a security watch programme, it is illegal to attempt to sell it. A text car check will let you know if a vehicle is on security watch and therefore the person trying to sell it is breaking the law.
Car Mileage text check
So you’ve read that a car has 15,000 miles on it, but when you have a closer look, it looks more likely that it’s done 150,000.
Some unscrupulous sellers will ‘clock’ a vehicle, which means they have attempted to change the mileage gauge on the car. TextCarCheck.com will provide customers with mileage check which is obtained from the National Mileage Register. They have around 85 million records on their files, so you can be confident that the results of this check will allow you to decide if the odometer has been tampered with.
Vehicle Write-off SMS check
If a car has been damaged in the past, it might not be the first (or second, third or fourth) thing a seller mentions to you. With a HPI text check, you’ll be able to find out if a car has been written off by an insurer or experienced more minor damage.
TextCarCheck.com will look at information supplied by insurance to assess the level of previous damage to a car and the insurance companies decisions. This can fall into a number of categories:
*A: The vehicle and all its parts should be crushed
*B: Parts can be taken from the car, but the vehicle’s shell should be crushed. The car will not be allowed back on the road.
*C: There is considerable damage to the car which may lead the insurer to decide that the car is not worth repairing. In this instance, the car can be repaired and may return to the road.
*D: Damage which the insurer isn’t prepared to repair, but which can be repaired with the intention of putting it back on the road.
*F: Fire damage to the car has led the insurer to decide not to repair the vehicle
*Theft: When a car is stolen and the insurer pays out for the loss, the insurer will assume ownership if the vehicle is subsequently recovered. If a stolen car is sold to an unwitting buyer, and then later identified as stolen, it can still be repossessed.
Where there is an *, a VIC check must be carried out before any new registration documents can be provided by the DVLA for the vehicle.
If the car you are looking to buy, or have already bought, falls into any of those categories, this will be flagged by a text HPI check. This will play a big part in deciding whether to go ahead and buy a particular car or not.
Car Inspection report SMS
If a car has been classified as a ‘total loss’, but put back on the road after being repaired, it will need to be the subject of an independent structural examination which will determine whether it is roadworthy or not.
When you carry out a car text check, you will be informed if such an examination has been carried out on the car and what the results of the examination are.
Vehicle Plate transfer
A previous owner may have stumbled across the perfect plate for their car that in some way spells out their name or a significant word to them. Subsequent owners may decide to change it again – nothing wrong there, you may say. This happens on 15 per cent of cars and a quick HPI text check can let you know the reasons behind any plate change. Is the seller trying to cover something up?
Used Car Documentation Text Check
Each car comes with a V5 registration document and a car text check will allow to verify if the paperwork that comes with a car is authentic.
We’ll provide you with the issue date and serial number of the V5 form, so you can compare them with the documents the seller of the car gives you.
Stolen Vehicle Text Check
TextCarCheck.com can access date provided by the Police National Computer to find out if a vehicle has been reported stolen.
Car Valuation Check by SMS
This will help you check the price a seller is asking for the vehicle against the going rate in the market. A useful tool for bargaining for a better price.
